The Rim of the World

I love traveling.  Since I started working and before moving to the States, I would make any excuse to travel everywhere I can think of.  It's something that gets me super excited.  Just leaving the city, seeing new landscapes, get lost in a forgotten town (in Peru there are lots of those), get into a plane, go out of the country, know other cultures, their history, walk in an unknown city and make it, little by little, my own, discover it's secrets, feel part of it's people...  I love it all!!!

When I started traveling, I thought that the most cities, towns or places I could visit in the least time, the best.  Very typical from my university years.  But then, I started to enjoy more to stay in one city or place longer, really feel more like a local and less as a tourist.  Savor the city like if I live there.  Just thinking about that feeling makes me sigh.  Now, since I moved only last year and our priorities are other things, we are not traveling much, so it is necessary to take a break from the city at least for one day.  And that's how we end up in Big Bear Lake, some hours away from where we live.  The Rim of the World, is the name of the last road that takes you to the lake.  It was an awesome day.  We rented a boat, eat delicious snacks, had some really cold bear, listen great music and had tons of fun.  It was super sunny and suddenly it got windy, then a light rain came and then the rain became stronger and it ended up hailing like crazy with thunders here and there... yeah! At crazy as it sounds!!!  We couldn't stop laughing of how bizarre the weather was.  But even with all those changes, it was an amazing day and we felt like if we had been there for the whole weekend.  This weekend reminded me of how even a day trip can really make a huuuuge difference.

As we came back, we promise to go at least once a month out of the city and disconnect.  That's what life is about, finding a proper balance in everything, even the time that you spend in the city and out of it. And, of course, we put in our wish list for the future, to own a boat, because we just loooove boats, at the lake or at the ocean, they are so much fun!!! :)

Amo viajar.  Desde que empecé a trabajar y hasta antes de mudarme a los EEUU, me dediqué a viajar a donde se me ocurriera.  Es algo que me fascina y me llena de una emoción indescriptible.  Salir de la ciudad, ver nuevos paisajes, perderme en un pueblo remoto (dentro del Perú hay tantos), subirme a un avión, salir del país, conocer otras culturas, la historia de otros países, caminar en una ciudad desconocida y poco a poco hacerla mía, conocer sus rincones, sentirme parte de su gente...

Cuando recién comencé a viajar, quería abarcar la mayor cantidad de lugares en el menor tiempo posible, típico de mi vida universitaria, acelerada y vehemente.  Luego con el tiempo me comenzó a gustar más pasar 1 semana completa o hasta 2 o tres semanas en un solo lugar.  Y saborear la ciudad como si viviera en ella.  Se me salen los suspiros de la nostalgia.  Ahora, como recién me estoy acomodando por aquí y hay otras prioridades, de momento, los viajes son menos y por eso mismo, se me hace indispensable salir de la ciudad, así sea por un día.  

Le dije a Roddy que quería ir a algún sitio campestre a hacer picnic, tomar vino... disfrutar del día completo desconectados.  Y aunque los planes eran otros, terminamos en Big Bear Lake, a unas dos horas de la ciudad donde vivo y fue lo máaaaaximo.  "The Rim of the World", que significa el borde del mundo, es el nombre de la última vía que te lleva hasta el lago.  Alquilamos un bote, comimos rico, tomamos unas chelitas heladas, escuchando música buenaza y divirtiéndonos a mil.  Pasamos del sol intenso a una lluvia medio leve a una lluvia intensa que terminó en granizada con truenos... jajaja sí!!! Así de loco como suena.  No podíamos parar de reírnos de lo bizarro del clima.  Teníamos pensado caminar por la ciudad y hacer más actividades en el lago, pero no paró de llover en un buen rato así que nos fuimos a almorzar.  Encontramos un restaurante deliciosísisisismo de comida hindú y ahí comimos rico hasta que la lluvia se fue y regresó el sol.  Precioso día!!!  La verdad que con lluvia, truenos y granizada, fue demasiado perfecto!!! Me había olvidado cuánta diferencia puede hacer una escapada, así sea cortísima.  Cuando nos fuimos los dos sentíamos como si hubiésemos pasado el fin completo en las montañas y nos fuimos con la promesa de pasar al menos un día al mes, mínimo, fuera de la ciudad. Cuando se pueda más, genial!  Y bueno, en el futuro, ojalá podamos comprarnos un botecito, porque qué divertido es estar en el mar o en un lago en bote.  Nos fascina!!! <3  Y bueno, de eso se trata la vida, más que de "tener" cosas, de disfrutar de momentos y experiencias y construir recuerdos inolvidables.  :)  ¿Qué opinan ustedes?
